Circus Bird Studio
Chris Lehmkuhl, Bench Jeweler, Studio 2C
The hiss of the torch, strikes of hammers, and the buzz of the jeweler’s saw are the sounds that emanate from Circus Bird Studio as Chris Lehmkuhl creates beautiful jewelry in precious metals and colorful stones. Using the traditional methods of silver and goldsmithing, Chris creates rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and brooches for clients with a desire for beautiful objects for daily wear.
It all started with a love of gathering and stringing together beautiful beads into elegant jewelry made on commission or as gifts for friends. Still, Chris was intrigued with the art and craft of the bench jeweler. After attending classes at Metalwerx in Waltham, Massachusetts, she became a student and friend of Carol Babineau, a jeweler and one of the original Picker Artists. In 2008, Carol invited Chris to share a studio with her at the original Picker Building in Nashua. She retired from her previous life as an IT professional and a fine jewelry tradition began.
Today, using traditional hand fabrication and forging methods, Chris creates exquisite pieces of jewelry on commission. She enjoys recycling/upcycling objects into something new and beautiful , and also creates new designs that hold a personal interest.
Looking for something special for yourself or a friend? Chris is always happy to discuss a new project. As an added bonus, you can see Chris’ array of tools, particularly hammers, when you visit her studio. She can be reached at:
